Proton, a Malaysian car company that announced a new model called Proton Saga in 2021, has just declared a new milestone it achieved, i.e. a 1,000 car sale target. Although the Saga brand was only launched in March of 2021, the entry into Pakistan's market was with a luxury SUV called Proton X70. The company shared a picture on its social media where many employees are cutting a cake that has been decorated with the words, "Proton Momentum 1,000 units sold."
The company is the only one in Pakistan with a lower price unique selling proposition. All the other significant entrants such as MG or KIA have been playing at higher prices and targeting the affluent section of the population. However, both the brands of Proton come within an affordable range compared to other brands, with the Saga vehicle receiving praises from the government and bringing down the competition. The vehicle's direct competitor is Suzuki Cultus and KIA Picanto, which are small, are not family cars, are not status cars, and do not have a spacious boot space. All of these features are included in Saga, along with a range of other more pragmatic hallmarks.
However, a source from the Malaysian manufacture has disclosed that the company is having difficulty maintaining the supply against a high demand from the Pakistani market. However, the Al-Haj group, the company's local partner in Pakistan, has announced that the car will be locally manufactured by June of this year, considerably reducing the price and generating more demand. This will also help them keep up with the order.
